Some good news and some bad news

So I got a call today. They are going to replace my new flyrod at the store.
I won't have to ship it out. YAY!.

Problem is they only have a 3 weight from W&M. in stock. I can get that
or pay the difference and get something else in a 5wt like a St. Croix or something.

What are your edumacated opinions?

I am mostly going to do pond and bigger
river fishing with it. Probably not a lot of small stream stuff.

If I only had one rod I would have a five weight..

I dont know the details of what you had and all that. I will say that I have a bunch of St Croix Legend Ultras and they are good rods.

Ditto that on the five weight. That would be my choice around here for larger rivers. When you say fishing ponds, are you wading, canoe, float tube, etc.?

Furface- Wading/kayak.

I figured the 5wt would be the way to go which is why that is what I got
in the first place. Guess I'll have to check out what they have in stock for 5wt's and take it from there.

I don't see any use in a rod less than a 5 weight, unless you're into really small fish in reall small Brooks.

I agree, I don't think you'd be happy with a 3wt as your only rod, definitely go for a 5wt.
