Sluggo Rigging Directions
For a flyfisherman these will drive you Nuts! They just work better than anything else at night; I am trying to come up with something to beat them. I was rigging up a bunch for the boat and thought I would provide some directions. Cast these out and work them slow on the surface, don’t stop the bait if you get a hit and don’t set the hook. The fish will do that themselves. I have seen bass hit these 3 or 4 times before getting hooked. It takes some strong nerves to keep working theses when that happens!
Supplies
1) You really need a rigging needle, you could probably make one out of drill rod but they are cheap enough that buying them is easier. For the line you can use anything but I would recommend something that holds glue like powerpro or fly line backing. I use super glue to secure knots and help hold the bait together when rigged. For hooks I like Gamagatsu Octopus Style 5/0 or 6/0.

2) Tie rear hook to line, I use a Nail Knot or Snell Knot, You want a knot that gives you a good bed to hold some glue.
3) Cut line to Aprox 12” , Tread line through bait, put a dab of glue on knot and insert hook in bait. Pull line taught so that you have everything straight.

4) Insert Front Hook, Push bait back of shank of hook, run line through eyelet and tie on shank. Any knot that leaves a good gluing bed will do it. You can also wrap the line around and use your whip finish tool to finish!

Finished

I tied up some 9” Gurglers that at this point would be better called Burpers! They are tied on a 4/0 hook with the shank bent up to help give the Burper section some support. The Tail is Yak hair and Glow in the dark Flashabou. Will report on how it fairs in the next Slugo Vs. Fly Battle (Tomorrow Night 10PM)
