I must be getting old, but throwing that TS 350 line on that Okuma setup I have is brutal. So I decided to mess around a little today. I grabbed my Quantum Kinetic's spare spool and went to Walmart and got some 30lb Fireline (break strength = 30lb., with 8lb dia.) and spooled it up. This reel has a very nice drag, that's why I decided to use that instead of some others that I have...Oh yea, it is also "Performance Tuned" I have a very inexpensive spinning rod that I used. It is a Shakespeare pile that I got a Walmart ages ago. I used it because it is the longest one that I have, I figured it may help me get a little more distance on casting. I tied on a short section of 15lb yozuri hybrid and headed out to the coast. In other words, this is a ghetto setup that anyone can throw together. I was throwing off the rocks and looking for fish busting the surface. The lures I had to use are pictured. managed to get 6 -8 fish in about 3 hours. I had the most luck with the baby sluggo's ( 6in. with a gamakatsu G-lock hook, 5/0). I must admit that Zara spook was so fun to fish! Fish were smashing that thing up off the surface and into the air, it was a blast. It was fun to do something other than fly fishing. One last note, I have forgotten just how destructive treble hooks can be, I really don't like using them at all anymore.

Step away from the spinning rod and come back to reality. You are a fly fisherman and there is nothing you can do about it.

I always have 2 spining rods rigged and ready in case anyone gets weak on board.
For trebbles I always mash the barbs and cut off one hook. They still are nasty but that helps alittle. I go to single hooks when possible but some lures just do'nt run right with singles.
