there’s nuthin’ like a case of the blues to get your morning off to a good start!

Went back up to Little Bay last Friday morning, started off finding breaking stripers on the Newington side, boated only a meager 18” schoolie, but still fun.

The action tapered down on this side, so moved across towards Oyster River. About mid-way across saw some rises, which turned out to be a pod of snapper blues. This was confirmed after my first catch on a crease fly, luckily hooked the fish in the corner of the mouth so it didn’t break off. Tied on a shock tippet, and continued to catch a bunch more blues. Was a blast. Man do those fish fight. Some gave a beautiful performance, filled with some nice leaps and splashes, was exciting.

Finished the day with a twinkie-striper, then headed home, to begin my "word" day. If only work was as much fun as fishing.

I never have been one to measure in pounds, so go by inches, the fish were probably about 15" mainly.

Where were you getting them, up in Little or Great Bay?

The morning I was into them, I recall that they were tough to get to bite unless I got right into breaking fish, probably because there is so much water around that spot, depth was I think about 30'. They were probably driving bait up to the surface, I just had to be in the right place at the right time.

I love snapper blues - although at 15" they are bordering on adulthood. When they are about 6-8 inches and chasing a school of baitfish, they are such aggressive little cuss'. Such a great way to spend an afternoon when they are running that size with a 3wt rod - such fun.
