It won't be long before it will be worth heading out for some spotty early action.

With all of the reports of holdovers throughout the area I keep getting tempted to hit a few of the warm water discharges. 8)

I feel the same way... I just rigged up a 9wt, with a TFO brand new reel and can not wait to throw some flies! THis will be my first season with a fly in the salt, but I have used spinning gear for many years now and done well. Let me know if you head out anytime soon and how it goes! I might go down to Hampton if it hits the low forties at all this week and just practice casting with some of the flies that I made! I am pumped about this season and will be heading out as early as I possibly can...

it's too bad that the nuclear power plant's outflow is so far out to sea.

I may head down to the newington outflows on the next warm set. I'll start hitting the prime beaches in April for the silversides run.

Nothing major just stopping in for an hour or so after work.
In the past the island has always done me right, but not many of the local beaches have produced for me in the early spring.

I think I'll give so. co. RI a shot in mid April. Dying for the salt season to get started.

Go south young man...

The last I had heard there were lots of wintering fish in RI and Conn. Give edgewater or someone local a call to see if that was still true.

My first stripers Usually come from the Bass River in Dennis,MA or Scortons creek. It is usually a boon or bust trip. Last year my timing was off and got the big zip. Year before probably caught a 100.

Will be looking for volunters to head down for the day soon.

PS.
You guys should do the salty swap. Good way to start the season!

I've never done well at scorton. This year I think if I were to do something local I would hit one of the closer warm water discharges in salem or someplace like that before I took the 2 hour ride to roll the dice.

In January a few guys I know down south said that they were still hammering fish. My guess is that those fish were locked in by a thermal boundry similar to the fish at scorton. So those fish should still be there.
