Does anybody else here fish the Island?

When I lived south of here Plum Island was a location I frequented at least once a week. But since moving up here I only get off the beach about once or twice a year.

Not this year, I'm heading back to the beaches with a two hander. If you've never hit a big beach it is a life altering experience. There is something about casting over 4 foot breakers to breaking schoolies and looking 6 feet ahead of you at a tail the size of a dinner plate cruising up the trough.

Next month I’ll start to make some low tide walks on the beach to get a feel for things. I usually start fishing mid April. Sand eels and silversides come into the beach before heading up river.

Besides the standard “candy” patterns yellow or chartreuse gurglers worked well through mid May.

I get down to Plum every season but not as often as I would like. I have fishe doff the beach a bit down by the Parker River but you soon get into the bird protection area and they stoped me from fishing. When is it closed and whe n is it open?

I fish the refuge about 3 days a week in the peek of the season, 6 pm - 2am.
I did really well off Lots 3 and 5, with some 20 pounders. I love fishing the refuge because of the steep drop offs in many sections, and the holes that are formed with strong storms.
