Attended last night meeting, was great to see a method in place for regular people to have some input in all the aspects of fish and game business. A Bear Hunter had an issue with the overlapping of the Dog and Bait Season; A Moose hunter had an issue with getting written access to some land he wanted to hunt. Another guy wanted to get a boat ramp worked on. They were all received well and treated well, and it seemed as though their issues would atleast be discussed if not resolved.

Fishing was the Main Topic.I will try to recap the fishing issues (Please correct me / add detail where needed). We were represented well as fisherman at this meeting.

Gerry from MRVTU had some specific issues for the board to consider dealing with:
1.Discrepancy with Signage and The Regs·
2.Logical Stocking Of Waters·
3.Need to Increase the number of Quality Trout Waters In NH

Jim Norton gave a great account from a guides prospective as to the need to logical manage the stocking of our waters. He had some Stocking numbers that really highlighted the need to better manage these fish. Along with the request for more special regulation waters.

Jay High From MFFA Again gave a proposal with specific accounts of the need of developing and managing our fisheries better. As well as where Season extension would actually benefit the fisheries through self-policing. Again the highlight on Creating Quality waters.

Name, From The Editor of Fly Fishing Newengland, gave an account the economic need of better managing our fisheries. Where tourism would benefit greatly by better managing the resources that we have. Again the highlight on Creating Quality waters.

FFNH , I introduced my self and made it know that there was a large group of anglers out there that were motivated as a group wanted to contribute to developing quality waters in NH. That we would be collecting information for a proposal to create more quality trout waters.

The Skinny: The message of the day to the state was, We could greatly improve the fishing in NH without costing the state any more money. This can be done by better managing the resources we have and basing decisions based on science and economics instead of just doing things the way they always have been done. Also that our waters would be better policed by the end user, “Snitchin When You are Fishin” would be far more effective than relying on CO’s.

In the end these are our fish and our waters, all members of the Forum should be stepping up and do something to help Trout fishing in NH. All members of this board should be a member of TU or a group like MFFA, as these groups are working for you and your kids Fishing futures.

lowwal, Thanks for a great report. I am glad that you had a chance to meet some of these guys who have been on the front line for some years. I certainly agree with your concluding statement.

It was good to meet you Mike. Also, the editor of Fly Fishing New England Magazine is Bob Mitchell.
There is another hearing in Lancaster November 7, an opportunity for those up north to tell the Fish and Game Commissioners that you want more and better managed Quality Trout waters, or whatever else is on your mind.
tight lines,
Gerry Crow

Thank you for taking the time and interest to gather info and report back to those of us that could not make it. Hopefully this will inspire others to get closer to the issues.
