Hey masssalter,
I lifted the following link from the mass salters page you posted in another thread. Thanks man, I'm not sure if you know it but we are looking to you guys down sout h to try to figure what we can do up here.

This is the genetic study that Ma TU did that shows that the different heritage salters are not only seperate gene pools from the stocked fish but also different from each other.

Yes, you are absolutely correct, each stream sampled - Santuit River, Mashpee River, Quashnet River and Red Brook had its own unique genetic signature. This is ground breaking information; it is fascinating to know that after all these streams where stocked with hatchery Brook Trout for decades, that the stocking did not dilute the native gene pool. When Brendan undertook the grant to study Salter genetics, nether Brendan or our state biologist Steve Hurley thought that the research would reveal this important revelation, Brendan was merely researching the genetic impact of stocking hatchery Brook Trout over a population of native Salters.
