I’m taking the pledge to not spread didymo while fishing!!!!

I wanted to share what I have done to date in hopes that it may be of use? Please chime in maybe collectively we can work this out together based upon different needs ….

Seems that understanding one’s needs are important here … For me my most enjoyable fishing trips are camping out for multiple days. When that’s the case I fish more than one body of water. But typically I only want one way to clean my fishing gear. It has to be 100% effective in mere minutes. So my end-goal was to find disinfection means to support this with great ease of use.

To understand this diatom I went looking for a trusted on-line source and found it at:
http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/didymo

Next was to find detailed reports on this critter and in particular the means to disinfect. For this I read a 2 rather large reports:
(hmmm dsl users may not want to clicky-clack here)

(prior study of above)
http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files/pests/didymo/didymo-decon-feb-05-rev-aug-06.pdf

For those that are looking for the (2) crib-notes disinfect summary:

http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/pest-and-disease-response/pests-and-diseases-watchlist/didymosphenia-geminata/cleaning

What disinfection steps works for you? Have any other good info on how to kill didymo on wading gear?
