I just recieved this letter after reporting 2 guys spin fishing with worms right up against the dam where you can literally look and see the mini school of big boys kickin around;

Thank you for the call. This is Conservation Officer Heidi Murphy and I was able to go down to Eastman Falls Dam soon after you called. I found the two gentlemen you described. One of them did receive a summons based on what I saw at the time which was the two salmon on the stringer. They both admitted that only one of them caught both fish. Is this true? Thanks again for the call. It is always nice to have extra eyes and ears out there.

Sincerely,

Heidi Murphy

I'm not one to be "the rat" but when people complain on this board about poor fishing in these areas, these people need to be turned in and this is exactly why! 2 10+ pound fish killed because 2 fat f()cks want something to eat, but can't read a sign

Nobody is a "rat" for turning somebody in for illegally fishing. Actually, the state of NH highly recommends it with their catch a thief program. These resources belong to everyone, not for "two fat f--ks who like to eat!"
Good job, I say.

Nice job! Everyone should be so thorough.

Hey, I buy my fishing license and follow the rules. And the rules are there for a reason. I encourage anyone to file a report if these see any yo-ho's doing things they shouldn't be. The only time I'll bring a fish home is if I know it is fatally wounded, otherwise it is 95% C&R.

Nobody is accusing anyone of unethical fishing on this blog who read it. It was just a thought that maybe we should be more vigalante.

I'm always willing to drop a dime on this kind of stuff. I always just hope the poachers try to confront me about it. Nice Job.

I agree with what's been said previously. I buy my license and follow the rules too. How many times do we complain about people getting away with stuff, never getting caught. You did the right thing, I would make the call as well.

...because 2 fat f()cks want something to eat, but can't read a sign

While I agree with turning in poachers, isn't this language a little inflammatory? Not everyone has six-pack abs, not everyone who keeps fish are poachers, and not everyone who fishes with worms is illiterate...

ok so maybe I was a bit upset, oh well... if you keep fish in a c&r section with live bait, and its posted everywhere that it's a c&r section that doesnt allow live bait, then you are poaching, bottom line. No excuse for ignorance, especially when I can hear them talking about it being illegal all the way across the river. they could have drove 1/4 mile downstream, and kept some trout. instead they got a court date ..... such a limited and fragile fishery should be safeguarded...now thats 2 less giant fish everyone who fishes up there has a chance to hook up with. all because of those 2 fattys, who apparently could read

nothing to say about six-pack abs.. and people have the right to keep fish where it's legal and as far as these guys being illiterate I don't know.. but, they were no doubt ignorant A-holes and i'm glad they got caught..

Hey, nothing wrong with calling the kettle black! If these guys truly are over weight, so what?? Most people can read, even "fatties."

Hey, time in the gym has been known to heighten mental acuity. Maybe then they wouldn't be "fatties" or "ignorant A-holes".

How did I ever miss I this!
The entire Atlantic salmon brood stock fishery needs to be reviewed. It isn't turning out as originally intended to serve as a teaching opportunity. It makes me both sad and angry to read that two disrespectful, morbidly obese, salmon poachers welding night crawlers, were disrespectful of the law, oblivious to sportsmanship and the very intent of the brood stock fishery. Better they dump them in the landfill like they did in the old days than perpetuate bad sportsmanship in MHO.

Tight Lines!

Maybe they've eaten too many of those broodstocks. If you read the consumption advisory, there is so much mercury in those things, you can only eat four ounces a month.
I think, over time, too much mercury causes neurological problems!
That would make a good defense in court.

My post was intended to bring a smile! You know, hatchery fish are feed and cared for very well. The water is excellent and I bet they are cleaner eating than wild fish living in that river. :)

Yes, I understand that you can eat all the hatchery fish you wish. They are fed the same pellets as farmed salmon and farmed rainbow trout sold in the super markets. It is the wild fish which are so beautiful and tasteful that must be limited mostly because of Mercury; from the midwest electric generating power plants. There is no similar warning in many other parts of the country upwind ( to the west) of these power plants.

I was just making a silly joke, but here are the consumption advisories for Broodstock Salmon.

Does turning in fly fishing poachers at Ellacoya State Park count when they claim they are flyfishing for bass after the trout and salmon season is closed in the fall?

salmonslayer420
07-16-2008, 10:43 AM
I usually don't say anything UNLESS I see someone keeping the fish. I guess it's up to you, although F&G wouldn't do anything, as they are "targeting" or "pursuing" bass.

I have fished up at that dam for salmon and if you approach the dam from the eastern side of the river there are no signs saying it's C&R nor are there lines marking where the "No fishing beyond this point" is. Not to excuse poachers, cause ignorance is no excuse, but signs would definitely help! esp when they are high enough not to be stolen.

salmonslayer420
07-16-2008, 05:11 PM
yea they need more signs, they were on the west side though...where there is a premanent orange tag nailed into the rock and a orange line... on the east theres an orange line, but it is wayy to faded for anyone to see from a distance. These 2 knew what they were doing. probably locals, as they went to the one spot on the river where the big fish always sit

I fish each May in Wisconsin. All trout streams I fish there with rules different from the general basic rules are very clearly marked at each point of access with the specific rules for that stretch. We do need more signs here in NH. With the tight budget at NHF&G perhaps an individual or club can volunteer to put up some signs. Talk to your local CO.
