Public Hearing: Tuesday, February 17th at 10 pm in LOB room 307
Purpose: to discuss proposed NH HOUSE BILL 559 - An Act relative to the composition and duties of, and appointment to, the fish and game commission of NH.
This will impact all sportsmen in NH; the specific issue is the removal of this
requirement:
“An active outdoorsman holding a resident fishing, hunting, or trapping license in at least 5 of the 10 years preceding the appointment.”
. . . and the addition of these requirements:
"At least one member of the commission shall have experience in the areas of wildlife preservation and animal protection."
"Each nominee shall file an affidavit with the secretary of state setting forth how the nominee meets certain requirements."
Hopefully you can all read between the lines of the above statements to see that this would be the death knell for hunting, fishing and trapping supporters in this state. Since the F&G Dept. is funded primarily through license fees and not the general fund, this bill is an obvious power-grab by those who wish to see hunting, fishing and trapping die out in our state. Similar bills have passed in "The Commonwealth" - let's make sure that they don't pass here in the granite state.
Primary sponsor of this Bill, Representative Carla Skinder of Cornish , no surprise was also the primary sponsor of the recently defeated anti-trapping legislation.
I work for a living as most of us do, but am seriously thinking about taking a personal day on February 17th so that I can attend this hearing. I urge you to attend as well if at all possible.
