Mustad stopped making that hook about two years ago so if you find some buy all you can afford and use with care.

The L87-3665A is still available.
Mustad has discontinued their classic line of hooks and now sells only the signature series of hooks. Personally I think this was a big mistake on their part. Some of the old models will be available in the Signature line, like the 3665A, however a lot of the old numbers will be gone forever. If you can find 9575's, my favorite streamer hook buy them now. I just ordered a hooks from my dealer in hopes of securing some of the old numbers. All that I received were the new numbers in the Signature series. I have been told that it may be possible to buy direct from Mustad as they may have some inventory left in the old numbers. The catch is that you have to buy in lots of a 1000.
In the mean time, if you need some L87-3665A hooks I have them. As for the old numbers they are starting to get low as tiers have figured out what is happening and buying up their favorite hooks.

They haven't done any favors to Partridge either since they took them over. Rumer has it that they've stopped production on the Carrie Stevens line as well as the 1/0 and larger Salmon hooks. Those you can "stumble" on to once in a while though.

I knew this was coming but gave them credit for having the brains to let go what wasn’t good and then improving the hooks that have been very useful. They let go the #94831 in #4 a few years ago and it really hurt Atlantic salmon dry fly tiers. Sure there are other hooks designed for salmon dry flies but the Carters’ Bug is best tied on the #4 #94831. The new Partridge salmon dry fly hook, Partridge is now owned by Mustad, is too heavy and the fly lands hard. I was told by some exceptional Atlantic salmon anglers and I believe it myself, that the fish feel it hit the water and it is wrong. Sure people catch salmon on them but in certain situations the hook is just wrong. I spoke to Mustad and it really is about sales. They were very nice and sent me some nymph hooks that were close to it and I will use them but if anyone has any Mustad 94831 in #4 and wishes to let them go please PM me. Same with the #9575 especially the large sizes.
Thanks all!

What's the difference between the 3665A and the 9575? I know they're both limerick bends and 6x in length ... eye? wire diameter?

That is a good question and there in lies the reason I have been looking for them. The 9575 hook has a looped turned down eye. The loop eye provides a base platform for the construction of hair wing flies. I prefer to use hair wing flies over feather wing streamers, nice as they are they are they are not as durable as hair wing flies. I have noticed that the wire appeared to be a bit stronger and the hook seems to be a better hook or so it has appeared to me. I do use the L87-3665A hook for feather wing streamers for which it is the better choice. Just because I like it doesn't mean it is any better but I did spend $100.00 on #9575 hooks today.

When you run out of the 9575's you might want to take a look at Tiemco's TMC765SP hook.
They are little pricey but if your using them for just your own flies and not tying for sale who cares. The other thing is,as with all the TMC hooks, YOU don't have to sharpen them.
Right out of the package their like razors.

Thanks for the info on 94831 however it is specifically the #4 hook which is needed.

Hearsear

The hook looks good but it does not have a turned down loop eye. The Partridge CS17 does but it is not the hook I want for trout. I do use it for salmon.
At this point I have found enough 9575’s to last me quite some time. I still would like #2’s or larger if I can find them. Thank you for your post.

don't want to beat a dead horse to death but here's the description right from Tiemco.
TMC765SP
Super Point,Down Eye,Tapered loop-eye.ox-3x heavy, 5.5x long,1.5 wide gape, Limerick,
Black Nickle. Sizes 4 to 12. Either in 100's or 25's.
The tapered eye reminds me of hooks
made back when Mustad and Partridge took pride in their product. I tie "my" streamers
on this hook and you can pull off a "very" small head if that's what you want as an end result.

Thank you! When I looked at the hooks I must not have had the SP model. It was 765 but the last letters were different and there was no SP listed where I was looking. Where do you get them? I need to look at them before buying any more Mustad!

Thanks Again!
