View Full Version : Salty get together
We had a thread running over the winter regarding a SW get together this spring. I volunteered to help pull it together. Its time to start pulling!
A few dates were tossed around and the concensus at the time was Saturday June 3,2006.
If 6/3 sitcks anybody still interested?
We can:
1. Fish the a.m. tides (anywhere from Great Bay to the Mass North shore) then convene for lunch at a predetermined time and somewhat central location. Eat and swap lies (or at least that's what my wife tells me we do at these things) then disperse to head home or fish the evening tide.
2. Solicit shore bound locals and boaters to act as fishing hosts for those traveling from inland. We can then figure out a way to match people up. (bear in mind that if you get matched up on a boat, please expect to pay for gas and the captn's coffee expense given we are looking at first light tides here).
OR
We could simply create a means by which we match people up for the day, let the social part fall by the boards and fish until you can't stand it anymore then go home.

If anyone is interested in fishing the Hampton River that day (or any other), let me know. I would love to help out.

I'd be interested in participating. I am shore bound, but woundn't mind getting onboard a boat. Either way is fine with me.

I have a 19" CC set up for fly fishing that 2 can Fly Easily. I am willing to captain for the AM. I know Great Bay, Mack (Won't Fish On Weekend!), PI Sound and Boston Harbor pretty well .
As far as the Date, Lets shoot for one with Early tides. I like to be on the water by 4AM.

I would love to tag along if everyone doesn't mind. I have never stipper fished before. I have done mainly steelheading out west, and trout here in New Hampshire. I am eager and willing to put a bend in my rod.

We're all "students" to some degree or another. The only pre req here is an interest in having fun and apreciation for our natural resources and good beer.

Hmmm. does that mean I have to leave the treble hooks and 65lb mono at home? :P
Okay this is what I have so far;
June 3, 2006, A.M High Tide 5:07 (Boston)
JimC- I'll be fishing the M'Mack, PI Sound. I have a 21’ FF friendly CC that can accommodate myself plus two others. I have a couple loaner outfits (9 wt & 10 wt)
lowwal runs a 19' CC. Sound like he can host 2 at a location TBD
Steve H can host shore fishermen at Hampton
The following have expressed an interest in this or other threads:
Dave (Birdfish)
Steve R
Jhicks
Mtnzone (Initially offered up a boat on the M’Mack)
Tippet
Bugchucka
CahilNH
sbeausol
Bluewilly
I’ll let this run for a little while and see what resources come to the table. In the meantime I’ll try to get together with Steve H and compare notes.

I have an extra Striper rod if someone needs it. And - if things go the way they should....I should have a Kayak...(Yes I'm still looking).
Oh and Jhicks....feel free to bring your 65lb mono - I can use it to tie up a six pack over the side of my Kayak...that I should have by then.

Count me in as of now! I'd be happy to give out some flies to anyone that needs them while we're there.
The 3rd will be a very productive time to fish. With this year's weather we can expect a lot more larger fish in by that time as well. I was thinking maybee we could put together somewhere centralized we could stay for the weekend if people are interested. Maybee do some tying, night fishing, serious drinking etc...

Maybee (sic) do some tying, night fishing, serious drinking etc...
"serious drinking".....Ok - I'll confess...when I got out of the Marines in '88, the U.S. Govt. forced me to sign a statement saying I will never drink hard liquor ever again - something about being a danger to society but whatever .
Now - (18 yrs later) if I've had three beers in a night....I've exceeded my norm by two. So I'll enjoy a stout or two but recreational drinking left with recreational sex years ago....alright - so I didn't have much of that but you get my drift.
For my part I'm going to keep this as simple as possible. I'll gladly coordinate the fishing side of this, but I take no responsiblity for overnight accomadations, alcohol and entertainment . From my perspective the reason to get together is to met some new fishermen and fish. I'm certainly no prude but I can't get behind organizing a "party" with alcohol in the plans for folks I don't really know. Sorry to be a wet blanket but I have to draw a line on my involvement here for liability reasons.

I would'nt mind camping out and burning some meat and drinking some beers, although my tolerance is supper low. With the hangovers being best described as cripling. I either damaged something in my youth or the wife is sliping me antibuse. But more than 6 and I am sick as a dog.
ICould camp out at the State Park in Seabrook, The ramp is right there and there is planty of wading Yaking activities around. I don't know how they would feel about the boats.
I would love to do a Friday NightCampout/Fish and a Early 1/2 day Saturday Fish.

This sounds like a good time, I don't know about pounding beers, I get terrible hangovers as well and that would making fishing early miserable. I have a 9wt. outfit that I bought specific for stripers, and I have never used it! I do lots of warm water fly fishing ( LMB, SMB ). I would love to meet some new people and fish in the salt, live in Manchester and thats about it!

I will Fish the Mack if that is where the group wants to fish, and am still up for doing an overnighter if anyone else is up for it, and will make the arangements on that end if you like.
Im my experience hardcore fisherman aren't to rowdy. Rather fish than drink. We can also put a Super Secret Probabtion Clause In if it would put everyones mind at ease regarding liability.

Count me in for the fishing on the morning of 6/3 - I will be drinking at home.
Can some one provide precise directions about where to meet since I am new to the area?

Sounds like a good tide. Is this at Hampton Harbor? I will be there fishing the Taylor river/ Mill creek side. Be aware the state employees that run the boat launch are not pleased with early-birds. It dosn't stop me from going out, just be ready for a minor hassel with the launch Nazis. The fishing is usually very good at the first tide in June that is at dawn. Clousers and large herring flies rule. Any details on meeting spot or times?

Think they where talking the Mack, I always launch from Cashmans and never had an issue with early AMlaunching. Have never launched from the NH side. Is this the a ramp in Hampton you are talkingg about or the NH Mack ramp.
Mack on a Saturday it is early or not at all for me. Place is a Zoo!
I'm trying to work on arrangements that will match folks up along the coast, from the M'Mack up to GB, then get everyone back to one location for the option of a low tide lunch somewhere on the coast. More details and a sign up list in the near future.

Just a sugestion but Browns is a nice low key lunch spot, where you can get good food while keeping your waders on.

this sounds like something that could be right up my alley (especially the beers) as i've never been fishing in salt before and seems like a great opportunity to give it a shot.
unfortunately i have prior commitments that day.
have a great time, fellas!
