I'd like to ask about early season night fishing for stripers. I've never had any succes targeting them early in the year. It seems like the second that night falls the fishing slows down tremendously... look forward to some insightful responses.

Fished Plumb island last weekend during the heavy wind and caught most of the fish after dark in the salt marshes. Fish were less than 10ft from the edge and even caught some 8 inches from the edge. At times I was casting along the edge and retrieving as close to the bank as I could. Fish were hitting something on the surface and seemed to be feeding on something in the shallows. To dark to see. Caught all the fish on a pitch black clouser.

When Fishing at night I have found the same thing as Bug, as soon as it gets dark the bite shuts off. I have also found that a couple of hours after sundown things pick up again. Why I don’t know? I have noticed the same thing in fresh water fishing, and early morning fishing. Where the First light bite is great then it picks up again around 9AM.
Can’t wait for the rivers to go down again! My usually Spots (MACK\Harbor) will be a mess this week.
