Default Rod & Reel Magazine, Nick Lambrou: Angler of the Year (1988)

I received this article from a member of the Manchester Fly Fishing Association (MFFA) and got permission to post it here. Nick Lambrou was one of the charter MFFA members and fly angler of the year in 1988. I had never met Nick, but use his woodduck heron fly often.

I didn't know him well but he was always a gentleman. Once I met him I was never a stranger again.

Default heron fly

Without the heron fly my fish count would be a lot LESS!

My father has been fishing with Nick for years. I have known him since a young boy, and have fished with him several times as well. He is a true die-hard fly fisherman, and an inspiration to us all. Without his herron fly, I would have half as many trout landed. I'm sure the same goes for most of you.
A couple years back I purchased an old, but in GREAT condition Orvis Battenkill 2-piece split cane bamboo rod from Nick. It was personalized with his name on it at the Orvis factory in Manchester, VT. I believe that particular bamboo rod I will hang onto for a while.
If I become half of the fly fisherman that Nick is, I will be a very happy man!
Glad to hear everyone else has a nice song to sing about him.

Nick was a class act, a great teacher, a nice man, a gifted fly designer and one of the best anglers I've ever seen.
This Spring in Alton Bay wasn't the same without him. He was what Fly Fishing is supposed to be.
