If you're worried about it, wait until the beginning of next season and you can throw mine. I think you'll like it a lot.

That's a great question, and one of the biggest I had when talking about this in the beginning. We had some iffy conditions for fishing when on the Cape, so I did not have a chance to fight a fish with the rod, only cast it. Certainly not my preference, but it is what it is. Anyway, keep in mind that the longer the lever is, the more advantage you are giving to the fish. Fighting a fish on a 12' long 9wt vs a 9' 9wt is significantly different, and the fish can put more pressure on you with the longer lever.

From my observations when watching Mike and others fish TH rods in Montauk, the fight looked just as serious as any on a SH rod. The most important thing to consider is that they were catching fish because they were reaching distances that I could not. I can assure you that their fish on their 2H rods put up more of a fight than my no fish on my SH rod.

Hope this helps. Look at it more of a tool to battle the conditions, and I think you'll arrive at the same conclusion I did.
